Even though donor advised fund sponsoring organizations are legally classified as 501(c)(3) public charities, donor advised funds do not qualify to receive an IRA Charitable Rollover distribution. A distribution from an IRA to a donor advised fund will be considered a taxable distribution to the donor and a subsequent charitable contribution by the donor. A donor advised fund can be named as a beneficiary of the IRA upon the passing of the IRA owner.
